Barel awarded Tekna price in Finnmark
Reason;
Barel AS is awarded with this year’s Tekna Price Finnmark in 2016 for its pioneering work with the development of modern electronics business in Kirkenes. Barel has shown that it is possible to develop and produce advanced technology in Finnmark. Rather than complain about the disadvantages of their location so far north Barel has exploited its location by moving much of their production to a subsidiary in Murmansk.
It is important for young people in Finnmark that local role models that can serve as inspiration for their own development – and education. Barel has – in double sense – proved to be a shining example to follow.
What is Tekna award?
Tekna Finnmark has instituted Tekna award for giving attention to a person or organization / business in Finnmark who have distinguished themselves in connection with technology. This can be through private vocational career development of business or otherwise has shown that it is possible to develop exciting technology project also in our county. Tekna wishes to inspire especially local youth to pursue a career in science.
Previously prize was given to chief engineer Per-Einar Fiskebeck at the County Department of Environmental Affairs.

Tekna – Technical and Scientific Association is the largest union in Academics. The association has more than 67,000 members with master’s degree in technology and science, in various professional situations and with different interests. Tekna Finnmark has about 220 members.
